During the 1980s the Warrnambool foreshore was the focus for Johnís photographs. The local breakwater is an ideal subject as the aging concrete structure has deteriorated over time providing interesting textures. The breakwater and surroundings are very popular with the local residents and tourists and many people climb the concrete stairway to view the sea.
John's main interest at the foreshore was to photograph and compose strong compositions with the large concrete slabs and other nearby maritime structures. The use of people walking or standing on the breakwater adds interest and contrast to the overall picture. Many of these images were exhibited at the Church Street Photographic centre in Richmond.
